What we buyHuman Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) purchases a wide variety of goods and services (mostly non-scientific) nationally. Procurement of goods valued below $5K and services below $1K are decentralized. The major difference in procurement and contracting activities between the National Headquarters (NHQ) and Regional Headquarters (RHQ) is the volume and dollar values (less in RHQs).Major items bought are:
Electronic Tendering HRSDC (NHQ) has used electronic tendering (MERX) for procurements valued above $25K since April 1997. The Regions do not use electronic tendering. Standing Offers HRSDC uses standing offers for purchases such as furniture, EDP equipment and services, and non-professional services. Acquisition Cards Acquisition cards are used extensively for the purchase of goods under $5K and services under $1K. Approximately 1400 cards have been issued nationally. Card are issued mostly to administrative staff.
